Spay, Neuter & Pet Surgery in Fredericton

At Royal Road Veterinary Hospital, we offer a wide range of surgical services, from routine procedures to more complex operations. When necessary, we refer patients to specialized, board-certified veterinary surgeons for advanced procedures that require specialized equipment or training to ensure the best possible results.

Our team prioritizes your pet’s safety and comfort during surgery. We take every precaution to ensure the right anesthesia for your pet, tailored to their specific needs and health status. The day before surgery, we recommending bringing home medication to reduce the anxiety of being left in the clinic for the day, as well as anti-nausea medication to help with the side effects of nausea with anesthesia. The morning of surgery we perform pre-surgical bloodwork to ensure that their liver and kidneys can use and filter the anesthesia, as well as their blood cells that carry oxygen and fight infection are at good levels.
After surgery our team of dedicated Registered Veterinary Technicians will recover your pet in a warm kennel, taking care of their temperature and watching their heart and respiration rate.

- Safe Heated pads such as a “Hot Dawg” System to keep our pets warm and cozy

Spaying – Females

Spaying your pet prevents female animals from becoming pregnant and reproducing, and can help them live longer, healthier lives.

By spaying your female pet, you’re protecting her against potentially deadly diseases, including bacterial infections, reproductive tract diseases, and several types of cancer. You also won’t have to worry about her going into heat – and it won’t change her personality.

On the day of your pet’s surgery appointment, she’ll arrive first thing in the morning, and her surgery will take place later in the morning. She’ll stay with us for the majority of the day so we can monitor her and ensure a proper recovery. A pickup time will be scheduled later in the day so we can review homecare instructions with you, and answer all of your questions.
Neutering – Males

Neutering your male pet prevents reproduction and offers health benefits, such as reducing the risk of prostate and testicular cancers. It also eliminates undesirable behaviors, including roaming, fighting, and spraying. Additionally, neutering helps control the overpopulation of pets and keeps more animals from being placed in shelters.

On the day of surgery, your pet will arrive in the morning for the procedure. He will remain with us for the day for recovery and monitoring. Later in the day, we’ll review aftercare instructions with you and answer any questions you may have.
Soft Tissue Surgeries
- Soft tissue surgeries focus on areas of the body not related to bones. Some of the most common surgeries that perform are:
- - Removal of lumps and masses
  - Gastropexy ( securing the stomach to the wall of the body, which reduces the chances of bloat/stomach twisting in deep chested breeds)
  - Eye surgeries ( lump removals, ectropion, entropion, eye removal)
- Many of these surgeries can make a significant difference in your pets comfort and well being. Regular check ups and early detection of certain problems that require surgical intervention allow the surgery to be faster or potentially less invasive if caught early.
